Breast Augmentation

TORONTO BREAST AUGMENTATION RISKS AND COMPLICATIONS

Dr. Rice's approach to breast augmentation, as with any surgical procedure, is to use protocols that keep risks and complications to the very fewest possible. Dr. Rice's Toronto breast augmentation patients are well aware that the wisest advice on minimizing surgical risk is to choose an experienced plastic surgeon.

To ensure his patients comfort and to control variables, Toronto breast augmentation surgery is performed at Dr. Rice's freestanding accredited surgical facility. Dr. Rice has prepared a brief explanation of some highly unlikely but possible complications that may happen after breast augmentation surgery.
NOTE : Breast augmentation is considered to be one of the safest cosmetic surgery procedures, the odds of risks occurring are extremely small when the procedure is performed by a qualified plastic surgeon in an accredited surgical facility.

Hematoma

Hematoma is a collection of blood contained in a small area. Hematoma can occur as a result of any surgery. In most cases, this is a minor complication and can be managed when excess blood is drained following breast augmentation surgery.

Capsular Contracture

The body's natural reaction to foreign objects such as breast implants is to enclose or encapsulate them in scar tissue. Capsular contracture can form if the scar tissue contracts. Depending on the degree of capsular contracture, the breast implant may feel slightly firm or in some cases fairly hard. The risk of the implants generating capsular contracture can be reduced by massaging after surgery. In more severe cases, it may be necessary to remove the capsule surgically.

Loss of Sensation

Some loss of sensation, in either the breast or the nipple area, may occur following breast augmentation. The scope and duration of this side effect varies from patient to patient. For the majority of Toronto breast augmentation patients, this loss of sensation-if it occurs-is temporary.
