Breast AugmentationPREPARATION FOR BREAST AUGMENTATION AT RICE COSMETIC SURGERY IN TORONTOMany women are understandably concerned about having any surgical procedure. Breast augmentation is one of the most gratifying procedures for patients, and Dr. Rice offers this page on proper preparation to ensure comfortable recovery and a speedy resumption of your daily activities. During your pre-operative consultation for your breast augmentation in Toronto, Dr. Rice will provide specific instructions to help you prepare for your surgery. Following these instructions closely will help you enjoy your preferred results and minimize your risks. Dr. Rice instructs his Toronto breast augmentation patients to avoid using certain substances, as this will help ensure efficient healing after a breast augmentation procedure. The most common substances to be avoided are nicotine and alcohol. Alcohol is avoided as it both dehydrates the body and dilates blood vessels; this may lead to excessive bleeding after surgery. Nicotine hinders recovery by interfering with blood flow to areas that require oxygen (carried by the blood) to heal properly. In extreme cases, the tissue at the incision line may die, which can result in heavier scarring when the incision finally heals. Fortunately, this is a rare event, but dramatically cutting down or quitting cigarette smoking is the only sensible decision before any surgery. Other substances you'll be asked to avoid before your breast augmentation include some over the counter medications. Usually, any medication that hampers blood coagulation may lead to excessive bleeding and should not be taken for at least two weeks before to your breast augmentation. Aspirin (ASA) and any medications containing aspirin fall into this category. Dr. Rice also recommends that your stop using any herbal supplements two weeks before your surgery. Though most are not dangerous, there is always the possibility of an unexpected reaction with anesthetic drugs that is best avoided. ADDITIONAL BREAST AUGMENTATION INFORMATION:
