Skin Resurfacing With SmartXide dot (Dermal Optical Thermolysis)
Rice Cosmetic Surgery, Toronto Ontario
There are two approaches to laser skin resurfacing, these are fully ablative and fractionated. If you think of the skin as a 1 in.², fully ablative means that the laser is removing all the surface skin within that area, while fractionated laser skin resurfacing means were poking little holes into that area and leaving normal skin behind. These treatments can be done at a shallow setting to remove things such as sun damage and fine lines , or at a deeper setting to remove more prominent wrinkles.
The Smartxide DOT ( Dermal Optical Thermolysis ) is a laser used to restore the youthful appearance of your skin. DOT Therapy can reverse the appearance of aged or sun-damaged skin, smooth wrinkles and fine lines and minimize acne scars. Smartxide uses carbon dioxide as an energy source in a fractionated fashion to resurface her skin. The DOT therapy produces thousands of tiny little holes into the skin created by the laser. Because of the unique properties of the laser we can control the depth, width and how long each laser pulse remains in the skin, therefore, we can customize treatment plans to the individual. The individual pulses of carbon dioxide induce immediate skin tightening and stimulate new collagen growth leading to a more youthful look to your face. Unlike other laser resurfacing technologies, DOT Therapy leaves islands of healthy tissue surrounding the microscopic DOTs. This enables your skin to heal more rapidly and minimizes overall damage. DOT Therapy is ideal for the treatment of sun damage, brown spots, fine lines, wrinkles, skin laxity/texture and acne scars.
The procedure can be performed in the office under both local anesthesia are sedation. Treatment and usually takes about 30-45 min. depending on the intensity of the treatment healing occurs between 3-7 days.
The Sciton uses erbium as his energy source. This can be performed and both a fractionated or fully ablative setting. One of the benefits of using the Sciton system is that he can be performed on multiple skin types.
