Education and TrainingA native and lifelong resident of Toronto, Dr. Sean Brian Rice was educated and trained at the region’s local universities, medical schools, and hospitals. He earned an Honours Bachelor of Arts degree from York University in Toronto and a Master of Science degree and a Doctor of Medicine from McMaster University in Hamilton. Dr. Rice completed his surgical residency training in plastic surgery at the University of Toronto and is a fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada. Well known throughout the Toronto and North York area as a leading plastic cosmetic surgeon, Dr. Rice is also an active member of the Canadian Society of Plastic Surgeons, the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, the Ontario Medical Association, and the Canadian Medical Association. The award, presented to just three outstanding Canadian surgical residents each year, is named after the late Archie Sopman in memory of his wife Belle, in recognition of the outstanding care given by a nursing student while his wife was a patient at Toronto General Hospital.
