Serving patients in the greater Richmond Hill area, Dr. Sean Brian Rice offers liposuction at his office in Toronto. It is perfectly normal that someone considering whether to undergo liposuction will have some questions about the procedure. Many patients wonder how the procedure is performed, while others want to make sure that the latest techniques and procedures will be used by the surgeon of choice. Dr. Rice always takes time to explain the procedures to his patients, answer their questions, and address any concerns. Below are some of the most commonly asked questions about SmartLipo™ and liposuction.
Liposuction is a cosmetic surgery procedure intended to remove excess fatty tissue from beneath the skin in order to slim, sculpt, and rejuvenate specific areas of the body. The procedure is most commonly used to remove unwanted fat from the abdomen, hips, thighs, upper arms, and buttocks. In liposuction, a surgeon makes a small incision in the skin and inserts a thin metal tube that is then used to break up and suction out fatty tissue. SmartLipo™ uses a laser rather than suction to eliminate fat beneath the skin. Typically, as many as 10 pounds of fat can be removed using liposuction.

SmartLipo™ is a revolutionary new technology that uses a laser fiber instead of suction to break up and remove unwanted fat from the abdomen, thighs, upper arms, or other parts of the body. SmartLipo™ produces substantially less bruising and swelling than traditional liposuction, as well as shorter recovery times. Dr. Sean Brian Rice, who treats patients throughout Toronto, Richmond Hill, and North York, is the only SmartLipo™ surgeon in Canada.

Liposuction and SmartLipo™ are not for everyone. The ideal candidate for either procedure is in good overall physical condition and close to his or her ideal weight but wants to slim and sculpt specific areas of the body, such as the abdomen, thighs, and upper arms, that cannot be toned through regular exercise. Liposuction and SmartLipo™ are not the answer for patients looking to drop large amounts of weight with a single procedure.

Just like any surgical procedure, liposuction and SmartLipo™ do carry some risks. Infection, bleeding, and nerve damage may occur, and since liposuction removes fatty tissue from the body, the threat of losing too much fluid is also a possible risk of the surgery. If not treated, fluid loss can lead to shock, so liposuction patients should be especially careful to monitor their fluid levels during recovery after the procedure. Other possible risks of liposuction include the development of blood and fat clots, friction burns on the skin, and harmful drug reactions. Dr. Sean Brian Rice always spends time with his patients at his office serving the greater Richmond Hill, and North York area. Prior to the liposuction procedure, Dr. Rice will explain all the risks and advantages of the procedure.

While the cost of liposuction varies depending on many factors, including the physical condition of the patient and the area of the body to be treated, it will generally fall within a certain range.
