Infection, bleeding, and nerve damage may occur, and since liposuction removes fatty tissue from the body, the threat of losing too much fluid is also a possible risk of the surgery. If not treated, fluid loss can lead to shock, so liposuction patients should be especially careful to monitor their fluid levels during recovery after the procedure. Other possible risks of liposuction include the development of blood and fat clots, friction burns on the skin, and harmful drug reactions.
